Dear Your Shot,
This is my final assignment. While I am leaving the company, I am not leaving the community.
I started at National Geographic in March 2008, the same month the My Shot community was born online. In May 2013, it was reborn as Your Shot—the global community of storytellers that we know and love today. 800,000 photographers and counting; every country in the world represented. Over seven million photos uploaded.
Let’s take a moment to consider that number. Seven million. Sharing even one image with National Geographic editors and photographers is a big deal, but sharing seven million? It takes a lot of guts and a leap of faith to post a photo online these days. You never know what might come back at you. Photography is personal—it’s meaningful and it matters.
What I’ve always loved about Your Shot is that every one is equal here. Each photographer has the same shot at getting published and because of that we are truly happy when one of us is recognized. One for all, and all for one. A community of people who share a passion for taking pictures.
So let’s keep telling stories together. Because we here at Your Shot believe the power of visual storytelling will change the world. One moment, frozen in time, at a time.

Editor's Note: This assignment will not be taking any submissions. The final story will be a selection of Monica's favorite images from the past few years.
