Check out this underground waterfall in TN we had to crawl, wade, and swim nearly a mile in low airspace cave to reach it under these conditions!
Who is Your Shot?
Thank you for your contributions!
Everybody needs somebody ...
To paraphrase Merriam-Webster, a community is a group of individuals with common interests. That definition does not come close to describing Your Shot. This past weekend, I watched as many of you uploaded for the first time, raised a question, and had it answered by one of your own. I could have responded, but didn’t because there was no need. That is what a community does. Individuals step up, reach out, and help each other.
Keep up the good work!
Wow! It hasn't even been a week since we launched and we are amazed at the photos being submitted and the response from the community. Keep 'em coming!
While every photo may tell a story, a caption can help connect the dots for the viewer—words matter, too. If there is a story behind the photo, be sure to include it. Don't forget the details and bits of information that explain the who, what, when, where and why of the photo. A great caption can take your photo to the next level and make it even more memorable. The better we understand the photo, the better we get to know you, the photographer. Why, at that specific moment, did you click the shutter?
Tell us more. We can't wait to hear.
Who are you?
As we launch the new beta website, we are asking ourselves who are these passionate, creative people who have made this community what it is and who are the new members who will help shape the community moving forward. So as our first public beta assignment tell us a little about yourself through photography—show us who you are.
We look forward to meeting you.
Monica Clare Corcoran
check out my pictures. I hope you'll like it. If you do then I'll appreciate your comment on that. Thanks
Even though i upload a lot of images on my FB page, I have a selected few images here on NatGeo, would like to know what you think of them?
Many congratulations to all the photographers whose brilliant photos have been chosen for this story and many congratulations to everyone who has participated!! A lot of talent has been seen in the "Who is Your Shot" assignment so everyone deserves big congratulations!!
Nice image on the error page :P
This is gonna be a great story with more than 7800 submissions and so many fantastic and awesome shots. This can't go wrong. This is just gonna be awesome I'm sure ;-)
Having an assignment offered has been a wonderful way to challenge myself and stretch the imagination. I tried many different techniques that I might not have even considered before this assignment. I just want to thank you for the time, effort and work it takes to make this site available. It has been nothing short of amazing to be able to bond with others who have the same passion and to see their work displayed. It has been a fun and entertaining way to learn.
Some people are going to get mad at you for moving the publication date...,have you red the latest comment ? Ha,ha...just kidding...Lots of great shots submitted ,it can not be easy to choose the perfect ones...I can not wait to see the finished project ! Have I mentioned how much I like this new updated site...? I know...,I know ... probably twenty times by now.... :-)
Why are you guys shifting your published deadlines, till yesterday you were supposed to declare results by 12th, today it has become 14th.
I am new to Nat Geo. Have uploaded just 6/7 photos. Would like to hear the review of the same.
Hello, My name is Matt and I have always wanted to be a nature photographer and for once I'm finally getting around to doing something about it. I really love this "your shot" and can't wait to fill it with my photos. Enjoy my photos, not to brag too much but I am told they make great wallpapers :). I am a fanatical outdoorsman so expect more animal shots, right now we have had alot of bad weather here in the SE of Pennsylvania so for now I am doing alot of flowering plants and trees and channeling Audubon BUT there will be more animals on the way I promise you. My next photo shoot will be on the Cicada. Once they emerge in my area.
Hello everybody! Im just new in this community as well as a new user of an SLR but NG has been a part of my learning since i was in college. I'm very glad NG has this part of sharing photos even for an amateur like me. Its my first time to upload photos and submit it in this assignment. I took a lot of courage to post my photos and share it with you guys because I've seen all their works and most of them are great! I hope you can visit my space here and help me improve. Do comment and suggest though i only have few photos =). Thanks NG! Hope you'll know how much knowledge you've stored in my brain....and actually, NG gave me the spark for photography (which i almost give up) a long long time ago. Glad i got one good cam now and it's a nice feeling I'm already a part of this big community. Keep inspiring us NG!
miss Meghan Murphy I HAVE A TROUBLE SIGNING TO PROJECT NOAH ! CAN YOU HELP ME OUT.
I AM REALLY INTERESTED IN JOINING IN PROJECT NOAH
Is there a way to go back to my previous comment if the page won't scroll to the previous comments? I'm sorry if there is a way to see the past comment. I just wanted to say thanks for the nice comments before, and this has been fun seeing everybody's photos. What a great site and what an inspiration too.
I have a question on the rules which may seem understood by most but - cropping isn't mentioned at all - is that an ok edit?
I'm getting excited for everyone as the Assignment comes to an end very soon! It is like waiting to see which one of us has hit the lotto! I am having lots of fun with this new platform and enjoying seeing such wonderful photography and creativity! Cheers to everyone and congratulations as ya'all are already winners in my book! Thanks to Monica and all the other staff members for all the hard work and dedication to Your Shot!
Hi Monica! Quick question about NG stock photography. Several years ago my 1st DD pick was requested to be used for NG stock image portfolio. Is NG still actively requesting images from the DD and other user submitted content? Just curious. You guys rock. Thanks!
In the transfer to the new system, I lost a significant amount of my previous descriptions. I think we used to have a 500-character limit, and now it appears to be around 400. Also, I've lost all my star-ratings and comments that used to be so valuable. My new gallery indicates some comments, but when I click to read them, they are nowhere to be found. A message says to be patient since it might take a few days, but it's been a few weeks.
Hello... have recently joined national geographic through a friend's suggestion..
I love photography though I am not good at it at all.. I am more inclined towards nature photography... and I am looking forward to learn alot here and to work towards being a good photographer!
I have uploaded some pics... please take a look and suggestions and all kinds of criticisms are welcome!!
Eager to see the results now. With close to 8000 pics uploaded I am curious as in how many days will it take before Monica comes up with final results ..
Hello, I am Sanjay Upadhyay and just finished uploading picture. Waiting to hear the suggestions. This a good platform to share pictures. It helps to see the hidden things from our own eyes....
Hi all, I am hiren and just uploaded few pics here on WHO IS YOUR SHOT? watch out and let me know about pics and suggestions are welcome.
Hi I am Binayak Dewan from Darjeeling and am new here, have submitted a few of my shots in "Who is your Shot" do check it out - I would love to hear your comments on my photos
I'm Jorge Ricardo. Is my first time writing here. I love natural environments. Get photos to birds, specially, falcons. When I was e child, I watched "El hombre y la tierra". Spanish serial directed by Felix Rodríguez de la Fuente about natural live. That serial create in me, the interest to know about species. Principally animals.
I'd like travel the world taking photos from animals in it's natural environments.
I'm Cristina and I've just decide to pop in to say how great I found this new website. Being able to be part of NG since few years ago it had given me the opportunity to share my passion with people from around the world and to learn from the shots of so many talented people. I love the new opportunity of the assignements and the chance to interact with staff of NG. You've made a great job, still few things perhaps to do (I hope I'll be able to see all the comments of my old shots migrate into the new one soon) but the quality of the images now it's great!!! I was so very proud to be part of your book Life in Color that I made all my friends to buy a copy! So thank you very much to everyone for being here!!!
Hi everyone. I recreate the experience that I have had when I captured those overwhelming moments. Pl see if they move you as well. I bet they will:)
hello everybody i am a new addition...a participant to this wonderful website. Please check out my gallery to view everyday photographs to which everyone can connect , enjoy and cherish.thank you Nat.Geo. for proving us a whole new dimension to explore
I'm a relatively new member and I just want to say HI to all of you. Please check out my gallery and I hope you find a photo you can relate to and enjoy. I love nature. Thank you Nat. Geo. for giving us a space to share what we enjoy.
@Ivan Lesica thanks for your wishes
@Lucy Beveridge thanks for your wishes
@Ivan Lesica The other day I tried to simulate a selection in only two pages of the gallery and I had much problems with indecision. :) And there's more! I think to cure such an assignment you must take a lot of inspiration, sensitivity and some concentration. Often, inspiration comes only in flashes. Now, imagine you stay inspired and focused for nearly 8000 photos in a row!! What can we say... Have another assignment coming up with almost 6000 photos and still 12 days to finish. It's Your Shot taking monumental proportions! #LetsExplore and hold firm friends! :))
@Ivan Lesica 12 days is not much time. Reviewing 7894 photos in 12 days then.. editing and publishing a story out of it is a tremendous effort. I really appreciate and thank the editors for their hard work.
@Ahfaz Ansari We are currently in a public beta phase which allows us to work out kinks in the process while welcoming new members to the community. Your patience is appreciated. We share your enthusiasm and we can't wait to share the finished story.
@Matthew Fritz "...I am a fanatical outdoorsman..." That was cool! Me too!
Also I wanted to add that If you would like to see more of my photos Click on the globe link on my profile... ;)
Hi @nithish vasu, I'm sorry to hear that. You can send us an email at email@example.com and we would be happy to connect you with their tech support team so they can help!
Hey I just noticed I was on when the assignment was ending did anyone else do a countdown? :) Silly.. this was fun, thanks Nat Geo.
@Jim Ivey Cropping shots is perfectly fine and at times, makes a shot a lot better. Just remember to make sure that no side is less than 1600 pixels (as it was in the old site).
@Jim Ivey I think its ok because cropping does not involve any change in originality of photograph.
@Mike Melnotte Yes, we are still actively reviewing photos and photographers to be represented by our NG Creative team.
@Salman Siddiqui I am curious as well ; )
@Salman Siddiqui Eager to see the compilation and also eager to see what will be our next challenge, where we'll need to go for capturing the new shots for the next assignment --the best part!
@Sampada Kalyani @Jim Ivey Some cameras have cropping as a native feature (crop mode) directly on the sensor, which decreases slightly the actual dimensions of the image but gives you a few millimeters more in range of your lens, and a higher speed in sequential shots. With these "super sensors" today, with tens of megapixels available --even in compact cameras, the effect of the cropping on the final image is becoming increasingly relative. It's just a matter of common sense when using this feature to get beautiful photos! ;)
