Gagaku is an art that combined ancient Japanese music and dance with those introduced from Asian countries. It was completed around 10th century and has been passed down from that era to now. It has been performed at the ceremonies or events of the Court, shrines, noble societies. Recently I had a chance to see Gagaku for the first time and was very much fascinated by the divine and mysterious sound and dance. I sincerely hope that this valuable tradition will be inherited from now on too.
