    It took 4 years of planning and as many failed trips to Denali National Park and Preserve to make this image a reality. Despite temps that dipped down colder than -40ºF causing the frost to win the battle with our car's defrost for the windshield, the conditions were nearly perfect! The wind was nonexistent (rare for this location). The moon was nearly full and coming from the southwest and after waiting hours, the lights danced magically for about 10 minutes before fading again for the night.

    This absolutely amazing image is a shot that has been dancing around in my head for years, too, but haven't yet had your level of sheer determination to get it.  Someday...

    Congratulations for finally getting what your mind's eye knew would eventually be there for the taking if you persisted.

    I like everything about this image. The moon, especially when full, is quite bright, but it certainly adds to the landscape here. Gorgeous shot!!!

    I admire your patience, your ability to wait until what you see before you is what your imagination had already presented to you...how did you learn that waiting was the clue?

    Fantastic!! I love your work, and the fact that you share it with us :-)......I'm not sure many people realize how very cold it is and how far you have to drive out in the middle of nowhere just hoping the Aurora will cooperate..... ....Congratulations !   You deserve to be published .

    @Mark Pommier Thank you for the kind words Mark. The full moon, on a very good Aurora night, does indeed lend itself well to composition. On a less than spectacular night though, it can wash out the Northern Lights. Fortunately, for this shot it all came together nicely.

    @helen normandeau Thank you Helen.

    Ha ha. I learned that waiting was the clue first through photography and then it became far more apparent when I became an Aurora Chaser. My wife describes the waiting best like this, "Lady Aurora is like a flirting mistress, she comes and flips her skirt at you and if you don't chase her, she'll run away and  you don't get to see the show."

    @Anne Jenkins Thank you Anne! I'm always grateful for your amazing support. It keeps us going all those nights that this kind of image doesn't work out.

    @vivian qin Thank you Vivian! Sadly, you get used to it. Just not as early in the season as this image was taken. ;-)
