Three weeks and more than 11,000 images later, Off the Beaten Path comes to a close. Thank you all for your thoughtful submissions to this assignment. I’m overwhelmed at the amount of entries and the diversity in content, color, and vision. I sorted through beautiful landscapes, unique shots of cities, interesting aerials, cultural perspectives, and more.
One common theme you shared in your photographs was remote and secluded locations, not far from what I imagine “off the beaten path” to mean as well.
What I enjoyed most was seeing how each of you interpreted that scene of solitude, whether it be a mountaineer alone in an alpine landscape, a priest on a cliff’s edge, or children playing on open land with the Taj Mahal far off in the distance. I also learned a great deal from reading your captions, which provided more insight into how and why you captured the images.
It has been really fun seeing what this assignment meant to you all, and I was certainly challenged to reinforce what it meant to me. As I watched this assignment take shape, this community opened my eyes to much more than I could have imagined. It has been a pleasure to engage with a community of photographers who are so thoughtful and dedicated, who ask the right questions, and who are enthusiastic in their participation.
I encourage everyone to take a look at the favorited images to see the variety of submissions and to be inspired by your fellow Your Shot photographers. Thank you for all of your submissions and for showing me how you see the world when you're off the beaten path.
