We both admired and were impressed by the many amazing images submitted to this assignment—thanks to all who joined us for the adventure. You shared a wonderful depth of experiences, capturing the broad range of what it means to live adventurously. We celebrated your moments of bold energy, perseverance, and commitment to a goal; and we were drawn into your moments of quiet reflection and connection with the treasured landscapes of our planet. Our edit reflects those diverse moments and pushes the definition of adventure beyond pure outdoor adventure to images that showcase the richness of the human spirit.

Here at National Geographic, our editors and photographers work together closely from the first moment a story idea is born. Crafting the vision for a story begins with phone calls and emails long before the photographer heads into the field on assignment. The editor supports and guides the photographer through the ups and downs of best-laid plans and evolving field logistics—sometimes even acting as a lifeline for a photographer in a remote and unpredictable place.

Once the photographer returns from the assignment, the editor and photographer work closely to edit down thousands of images into a tight collection of diverse frames that captures each aspect of the story. Narrowing down the selection can be very tough and takes trust on both sides. A strong edit of images, bestowing value on each frame, makes all the difference in how much impact the story will have. The photographer and editor are in close partnership to make this happen, just as we were for this Your Shot assignment.

We hope you enjoy these photos as much as we did. And thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
