Thank you Your Shot community! Almost 13,000 of you submitted a record number of images this month—over 25,000, which is three times more than any previous Your Shot assignment! And thanks to all of you who participated in many other ways: spreading the word, liking and commenting on pictures, and joining our Google Hangout.
We have had a lot of fun looking at your images, which ranged from surprising details to wild weather, from moody landscapes to real moments, from unique cultures around the world to your own homes and families. Many of you showed us great use of light, strong compositions, and good storytelling images in keeping with our theme: Explore Our Changing World.
We have chosen 18 images that we feel tell this story in diverse and compelling ways. Our winner is Klause Priebe’s black-and-white Canyonlands lightning image. We have also included the reader’s choice, Juan Osorio’s solar–powered plane, in our final layout. Both of these will be printed in an upcoming issue of National Geographic magazine. There were many more images of merit beyond this tight selection. Some, unfortunately, had to be removed from consideration based on the year shot, but we still applauded your efforts.
Thank you for making our editing so enjoyable.
