After looking at almost 14.000 images over the last four weeks and slowly narrowing down our selection to 20, we feel privileged to publish this fantastic collection of photographs, completing the Landmark Moments assignment. Your images took us to some of the most beautiful places on Earth and we are happy that we could include your breathtaking landscapes across six continents in this story.

Taking a small selection from thousands of photographs inevitably reflects the personal views of the editors. We put special focus on composition, light, and a new approach to each subject in our selections. After viewing dozens of images of the same landscape in similar conditions, unfortunately even the most special places lost impact and uniqueness. Photos showing the unexpected—fog in the Namib Desert, rain in Antelope Canyon, and Yellowstone National Park in black and white—caught our special attention. Surprise elements in your images made us stop and, if the frame was in balance, it helped us connect with the photographs immediately.
