We asked you to transport us. You did. From the plains of Mongolia to BASE jumping from mountaintops to quiet nights along California’s Big Sur, you’ve taken us on a journey around the globe. With more than 8,500 entries, the Your Shot community has created a Travelogue, tracing the ebb and flow of life with your photos.

The pictures we received ran the gamut; intimate moments mixed with vast landscapes: Iceland’s seemingly never-ending dreamlike landscape, surprising portraits of men bathing in India, village women gathered for an annual celebration in El Salvador. You opened a door into the lands and cultures we all want to explore, and your photographs relay the emotion of the discovery.

On a cloudy day we traveled to the west end of the Vatnajokull Glacier in Iceland, when the cloud...

Working from a high vantage point, Adam captured the immense scale, as well as the mood that permeates Iceland. The rivers trail from the foreground to the background, allowing us to imagine the journey.

Emotion, light, and environment all combine in this photo. At once the BASE jumper is giving reverence to the sky’s streaking light, while also throwing hands up, toward his adventure. This famous location at Big Sur is often photographed, but becomes more intriguing under the night sky. The long-exposure allows trees blowing in the wind to soften to a dreamy, brushed aesthetic, as the deep colors of the sky and ocean saturate the frame. When we think of travel photography, we aren’t thinking of a specific photo, land, or frame. We’re looking for a photograph that transports us to a new land, people, or place in time. A photo that actually captures that fleeting mood we all carry during travel and sometimes can’t quite hold onto. The moment when you pause and whisper to yourself, “Remember this moment,” because it encapsulates the emotion of your entire journey. That’s the power of travel photography. Thank you for transporting me. I can’t wait for our next trip.
