A Visual Diary: On April 1, 2019, I...
THE PROMPT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT IS SIMPLE: SHARE YOUR TWO BEST PHOTOS TAKEN ON APRIL 1, 2019. Editor's Note: This assignment will be open for submissions on March 31, 2019 at 12PM EST.
Your Shot is a global community of photographers, and together we are creating visual diaries sharing moments from our lives. By using the structure of time as a common theme, we can reflect on the similarities and differences within our community. One of my favorite assignments has been documenting the same day together (“On January 1, 2019, I…”). Because I loved this so much, I want to begin repeating this concept on the first day of every month. Check out how the community spent March 1, 2019.
Not every photo you take is going to be from an epic situation or from the trip that changed your life. Photography is about finding the light, observing the lines, textures, and patterns, and anticipating the moments—whether by chasing them or documenting the everyday ones. The only way to get better as a photographer is to keep taking pictures, and this assignment is part of a larger initiative encouraging you to make new photos.
I hope you will also recognize these “On (Day), I…” and “My Best Photos of (Month)” assignments as an opportunity. Whether you are a professional or an amateur, these assignments require you to submit new photos. These assignments reset the playing field for every participating community member and give everyone a new chance to receive feedback and be published.
The submission deadline is April 2, 2019, at 12 p.m. ET. See you on April 1.
