My First Published Badge

This assignment ran from Mar 11 to Mar 18, 2019.

If you have NEVER been published by Your Shot, this assignment is for you. Your photos may have received Editor's Favorites or Editor's Notes. However, to be considered for this assignment's final story, NONE of your photos must have received a published badge, including:

Daily Dozen
Photos of the Week
National Geographic's Photo of the Day
Editor's Choice, Published in National Geographic magazine
Selected for (Your Shot Story)

My advice is to recognize this assignment as an opportunity. Be deliberate in your submissions. Does your photo have good light, interesting composition, and/or a lovely moment? Does your caption answer the who, what, when, where, and why of the scene you photographed? Are these really your two best photos? Maybe your best photos have not yet been uploaded. Take advantage of the assignment discussion board and ask each other for advice and feedback BEFORE submitting. This is a chance for your first Your Shot published badge, and I look forward to seeing who seizes this opportunity to distinguish themselves.

If you have been published previously, don’t stop reading—you can still participate in this assignment by positively supporting your peers. Remember how excited you were to receive your first published badge? Use this assignment as an opportunity to inspire others. Favorite photos by your fellow community members and leave comments articulating WHY you like their submissions. I will feature my favorite comments in my Editor's Notes. At the end of this assignment, there will be a group of Your Shot photographers who will have received their first published badges. That is very exciting to me.

You will have two submissions. Deadline is March 18, 2019 at 12PM EST.

New Your Shot assignment: My Best Photos of March 2019

Posted mar 22, 2019

I loved how well you supported and encouraged each other in the assignment discussion board. This made me so happy. This type of positive engagement is what Your Shot such a special community. Together we will become better photographers and more thoughtful storytellers.

To continue building on this energy, I want to try something different: I have opened up My Best Photos of March 2019 early. You will NOT be able to submit until Monday March 25, 2019 at 12PM EST. Until then, I would love for you to take advantage of the discussion board and ask each other for advice and feedback BEFORE submitting. I just think this is so smart.

The prompt for this assignment is simple: share you two best photos taken from March 1-31, 2019. If your submissions do NOT meet this one assignment criteria, you will NOT be selected for the final story.

Open for Third Submission

Posted mar 15, 2019

Because the Your Shot site was under maintenance yesterday, I am opening the assignment up for a third submission. Deadline is still March 18, 2019 at 12PM EST.

I love witnessing the engagement on the assignment discussion board, I love how you are helping each other with advice on which photo to submit. This type of positive support is what distinguishes Your Shot from other photo platforms, we are a community. Together we will become better photographers and more thoughtful storytellers, one photo at a time.

I have already favorited 330 photos, keep up the great work.

I have two upcoming assignments:

• My Best Photos of March 2019 launches on March 25, 2019. See My Best Photos of January 2019 final story for inspiration.
• On April 1, 2019, I… launches on March 31, 2019. See On March 1, 2019, I... final story for inspiration.

On Wednesday I published a final story to help me curate content for National Geographic’s Photo of the Day series. Every day one Your Shot photo is featured on National Geographic. This could be you. Keep up the great work.
