A Visual Diary: April 2019

This assignment ran from Apr 24 to May 1, 2019.

THE PROMPT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT IS SIMPLE: SHARE YOUR BEST TWO PHOTOS TAKEN BETWEEN APRIL 1-30, 2019. If your submission was NOT taken during the month of April, you will NOT be selected for the final story. The deadline is May 1, 2019, at 12 p.m. ET.

To become a better photographer and more thoughtful storyteller, you need to keep practicing—and not just share older photos from your archives. These “My Best Photos of (Month)” assignments are designed to help you do just that. Practice now so that when you are on vacation or on assignment you are ready to follow the light, observe the composition, and anticipate the moment. What I love about these monthly assignments is that anyone can participate and everyone has the same chance to receive an Editor’s Favorite and Editor’s Note. Of the 181 images selected for the past six “My Best Photos of (Month)” stories, 60 Your Shot photographers were published for the first time. This could be you.

I hope you recognize these monthly assignments as opportunities to continue growing as photographers. Together, through our global photo community, we are creating a monthly visual diary of our world.
