A Visual Diary: June 2019

This assignment ran from Jun 24 to Jul 1, 2019.

THE PROMPT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT IS SIMPLE: SHARE YOUR BEST TWO PHOTOS TAKEN BETWEEN JUNE 1-30, 2019. If your submission was NOT taken during the month of June 2019, you will NOT be selected for the final story. The deadline is July 1, 2019, at 12 p.m. ET.

Last month to celebrate 10M photos uploaded to Your Shot, I ran an assignment with National Geographic photographer Robbie Shone where one community member received a portfolio review. Our video conference call with Lorenzo Mittiga was awesome. It was so much fun that I want to do it again. In case you missed it, HERE is Robbie’s advice on portfolios.

To become a better photographer and more thoughtful storyteller, you need to keep practicing and making new pictures. What I love about these monthly visual diary assignments is that anyone can participate and every community member has the same chance to receive an Editor’s Favorite, Editor’s Note, and be published in the final story. However, there are too many Your Shot photographers submitting images that do not meet the one prompt for this assignment.

To reward those that follow the prompt of the assignment, one community member published in the final story will receive a portfolio review. I will use one of two ways to verify the date your photo was taken:

1. In the photo details section, the “Date Taken” field reveals your submitted image was made between June 1-30, 2019.

2. If the “Date Taken” field does not appear in your photo details section, your submitted image must also include the following language in your caption: This photo was taken on (EXACT DATE – month, day, year) in (CITY, COUNTRY). By including this language in your caption, I am trusting that the photo was taken on the date you write.

Click HERE to participate in our open assignments, including “Adventures of a Lifetime” where one Your Shot photographer will be published on the cover of National Geographic Traveler magazine.
