A Visual Diary: March 2019
THE PROMPT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT IS SIMPLE: SHARE YOUR BEST TWO PHOTOS TAKEN BETWEEN MARCH 1-31, 2019. If your submission does NOT meet this one assignment criteria, you will NOT be selected for the final story. Deadline is April 1, 2019 at 12PM EST.
To really take advantage of Your Shot, a platform where you have the opportunity to receive expert feedback from National Geographic photographers and editors AND encouragement from fellow community members, you need to keep making new photos and not just share older images from your archives — that is the mission of these “My Best Photos of (Month)” assignments.
To become a better photographer and more thoughtful storyteller, you need to keep practicing. Not just when you are in some exotic location, but in everyday situations in your community with family, friends, and neighbors. Practice now, so when you are on vacation or on assignment, you are ready as a photographer to follow the light, observe the composition, and anticipate the moment. What I love about these monthly assignments is that anyone can participate, and I hope you recognize these "My Best Photos of (Month)" assignments as an opportunity to motivate yourself to continue growing.

Of the 150 photos selected for these five stories, 52 Your Shot photographers were published for the first time. I also featured the comments of 70 Your Shot photographers in my Editor's Notes because I really loved how they articulate WHY they like the photos of their peers. This could be you. Keep up the great work.
As I’ve written before, through these “My Best Photos of (Month)” assignments, together we are creating monthly visual diaries of our world — and I really love that concept.
