Roseate Spoonbill in Flight
A group of spoonbills is called a “Bowl”. They are highly social and feed with each other. Their sensitive bills move from side-to-side as they feed, the bill closes on any detected food. Chicks are born with straight bills that develop a spoon shape as they grow. Six species of spoonbills exist, but the roseate is the only to live in the Americas. Because of the pink color, which comes from the foods they eat, this bird is often confused with the flamingo. Oldest on record lived 16 years.
