We actually went to this cute little seaside place of Santa Cruz, on the island of Madeira, in order to sample some famous local cakes, but this seemingly abandoned and decrepit pier, coupled with a dramatic sky backdrop, exuded such an eerie film noir atmosphere, that I simply had to take some photos first... I did eat the cakes afterwards as well :)
