Bringing the gift of life. Surgical team from New York Presbyterian Hospital flying to Virginia. The surgeons are planning the procedure to take place to retrieve the heart from a man who died as a consequence of a motorcycle accident. It has to be a quick, precise and perfectly synchronized operation because the donor is providing other organs to save many other lives. The man who received the heart had been in terminal heart failure for several years. The surgery was successful.

Juan, this is awesome. I am so eager to know the back story about this photo and how you ended up on that plane with the surgeon. I love this moment you caught of them planning this life-saving operation. I'm obviously partial to this image because my daughter is a heart-transplant recipient, but I think even if I didn't have the personal connection that you really submitted a strong piece for this assignment. These men are about to take part of a beautiful final act of a man's life. Great work.
