No story of my father's was ever told to me with as much emotion as the time he visited Great Sand Dunes National Park. He recalled in vivid detail the amount of joy he experienced standing atop the dunes during sunrise, reveling in the beauty of the natural landscape around him. A month after he passed, I made the same journey. Through luck - or fate - I was the sole occupant of the park that morning. The amount of solace I felt in this moment has never been surpassed. Life goes on. Enjoy it.

Tom, this photograph is striking without the caption, but when I read your connection to this special place and that you were able to enjoy it in complete solitude I find myself connected to the image. I know you must have felt your father with you that day in the place that spoke to him in such a special way. Thank you for sharing such an intimate photograph.
