Purple gallinules are found in southern marshes with floating vegetation. Long toes, allows this bird to walk on plants without sinking. To feed the young chicks, parents search for invertebrates on the bottom of plants. This beautiful colored carnivore also feeds on seeds, grains, fruits, and flowers in the tropical wetlands. The gallinule has a dark purple head, neck, and underside. Other features include red bill tipped with yellow, light blue forehead, and yellow legs.
