    Her life began suddenly. After I experienced massive blood loss, a major abdominal surgery was the answer to combat what's called an abruption. The procedure went well, and besides the fact that she and I were connected to wires and machines, rather than each other, we were in great shape. The day the numbness wore off and I regained enough strength to stand, was the day I got to see her in the ICU. It was a moment I absolutely took for granted with my previous children.
