Perahera is a Buddhist cultural and religious pageant in Sri Lanka, performed in the night, mainly. One can observe elephants in colorful costumes; dancers, drummers and pipers of various traditions parading around the streets creating a glamorous and unforgettable picture. In the ancient times, flambeau carriers were the main source used to illuminate this event. Today, its done by the gas-lamp carriers. But, still, they too add extra colors to this spectacular event.
