Selaron and his Colorful Stairs
One of the most amazing places in Rio de Janeiro are the stairs between Lapa and Santa Teresa. Originally simple concrete stairs, but Jorge Selaron had a vision which transformed them forever.
Since the 90s, Selaron worked daily in this project using colorful tiles to cover them completely. The day I took his portrait he was just outside his home/studio painting a new tile.
Selaron was found death at those stairs Jan 10, 2013. The colorful tiles remain as a Spark of Genius for all of us.
