One of the most amazing places in Rio de Janeiro are the stairs between Lapa and Santa Teresa. Originally simple concrete stairs, but Jorge Selaron had a vision which transformed them forever. Since the 90s, Selaron worked daily in this project using colorful tiles to cover them completely. The day I took his portrait he was just outside his home/studio painting a new tile. Selaron was found death at those stairs Jan 10, 2013. The colorful tiles remain as a Spark of Genius for all of us.
