The mountain village of Batad is a spark of genius. Despite being centuries old, it still is a sustainable way for upland rice production for the village's consumption. The village's forefathers, out of necessity and foresight, carved the mountain and built the terraces by hand for the sake of their people's survival. The rice terraces of Batad was inscribed in the UNESCO Worlds Heritage list last 1995.
