Felt has long been embellished by wavy and colorful designs, and protected Turkmen yurts and their wooden and mud houses against moisture. Felt-making is physically demanding and done by women. Like Turkmen carpet, the curvy and wavy patterns of the felt remind us of ram horns, scorpion tail, and horse mane or neck. Along with other handicrafts, felt-making has been integrated with Turkmen’s traditional and nomadic lifestyle.
