Latvian woman with chaplet
In Latvia still today, just like hundreds years ago, a celebration of the summer solstice is held. Midsummer Eve celebration is called Līgo. The shortest night of the year is spent in front of bonfires that are burnt until sunrise, singing folk songs, proceeding rituals, worshiping, eating and drinking. Women and girls wear chaplets of flowers on their heads, while men wear a crown of oak leaves.
