Fermented Leaves Rolled into Specialty
On May 23rd, I hit the road to Viñales Valley, a Karstic depression in Cuba. Viñales Valley locates in the Pinar del Río Province and it's approximately 184 kilometers away from Havana. Tobacco, sugar cane and other corps are cultivated at the bottom of the valley. As it is known by most of us, cigar is made of fermented tobacco leaves. A man from the farm is showing visitors how to make cigar in a traditional way. He smokes the cigar beforehand to examine the quality of the tobacco leaves.
