There is a magnificent gum tree, more than 80 feet high,in the seaside village of Maroom on the Sandy Strait. Today, in the middle of winter, it was in full flower and the lorikeets were gorging in the blossoms. This one is a Scaly-breasted lorikeet. I was so pleased when it finally came out and revealed itself : Scalys are vastly outnumbered by Rainbow lorikeets!See it's beautiful turquoise head!
