Sequoia trees do not burn or rot or die from any sort of pests. The only thing that finally kills them is that they get so huge, that they finally just fall over. But, that can take hundreds or sometimes thousands of years to happen. The roots you see here are part of a Sequoia that fell maybe a thousand years ago, or more.
