The 'morning alms' tradition in Buddhism always stroke me as mesmerizing. The 'Vinaya' monastic code forbids Buddhist monks from earning a living, mandating to beg for food instead. I saw this tradition all over Asia, with this particular moment having been captured in Bagan, Myanmar. Here, I encountered several young monk novices or 'Samaneras' begging for the ubiquitous white rice. It was fascinating to see even the eldest members of the community standing to provide their offerings.
