I was following a group of Grand Canyon National Park wildfire firefighters into a controlled burn, wearing only a hardhat and a goggles when we turned and saw the flicker of orange in the greenery. Walking over remnants of past burns, I saw new growth and small seeds spread out over the ground. Wildfires are usually misunderstood as damaging the forests, but they actually help the forest thrive in an environment that's becoming increasingly difficult to survive in.
