The Vermillion Cliffs form part of the Grand Staircase of the Colorado Plateau. The cliffs are made from deposits of silt and sand dunes with their redness coming from iron oxide and manganese. This habitation had been built in some rocks that had fallen from the cliffs. Long abandoned, it now provides an aperture from which to view other fallen rocks.
