Zambia, Lower Zambezi: female elephant
As we headed for home in the safari vehicle our path intersected with that of a group of elephants. Though not the matriarch of the group, this elephant didn't feel inclined to let us pass; the body language said it all. Ear flapping, trunk and tail waving, not to mention lifting her front feet off the ground and then stomping about and kicking up dust as she came a few steps forward with each display. Just a mock charge, apparently - so glad! These animals are really huge when they get close...
