One of the most astounding environments that I've ever seen. Being a Kentuckian, this was my first encounter with a true desert. While it felt almost naked being without trees, I fell in love with the vast stretches of sage brush and meditative silence. I was also reading Cormac McCarthy at the time, which certainly added a powerful element to the terrain.
