An Epic Fort in Fresh Snow
Fort Goryokaku in Fresh Snow. Built in 1855, it is a large star-shaped historic fort in the Japanese city of Hakodate on the northern island of Hokkaido. It shows the two bridges and a frozen moat completely covered with fresh snow around the main entrance to Fort Goryōkaku. Several people walking between the two bridges can be seen. Stone walls define the edges of the fort. The photo was taken between blizzards from the 107-m high observatory next to the fort when the view was cleared.
