To me, the ocean is a song of impermanence. It's an ever-changing beauty that reminds us we can't hold on to anything. The bones of this broken pier on Hatteras Island in North Carolina will continue to fall into the sea. The homes built on these precarious barrier islands will fall into the sea. Our bones, our atoms, will eventually return to the sea. It is a beautiful, urgent song.
