The clouds in this photo are actually smoke, a result of a gigantic wildfire that burned in southwest Colorado in the summer of 2013. As I was being evacuated from my campsite because of the fire, I saw this scene in my rearview mirror and knew I had to pull over to capture it. The sun was setting, and with the smoke, it created this apocalyptic-looking, blue-tinged landscape hovering ominously over the countryside. It felt like being on a different planet.
