Here Lies Churchill's Remains
What was once a vibrant US Army Fort and Pony Express way station in the 1860's now crumbles under the fierce force of winter weather in rural Nevada! An epic 200 soldiers were stationed here, nestled along the Carson River, when Paiute Indian wars were common. Nearby Buckland Ranch supplied the much needed fresh mounts for pony express riders. The fort was used during the Civil War as a vital supply depot for the west. In 1869 it closed. In 1961 the fort became a National Historic Landmark.
