This photo was taken from an old fire tower in Killington, VT. In the early 1900's fire towers in New England were becoming very popular in an attempt to spot forest fires early and prevent less destruction. Two people would sit in these towers scaterred across the region and keep watch. In 1985 Vermont ended its fire tower program but left the towers where they stood. Today there are 16 left standing in the state and if you're brave enough to climb one, they offer an amazing view point.
