In July 2017 the natural reserve of Cap Lardier suffered from major wildfires. Local official accuses the authorities of failing to regularly remove dry undergrowth, making the forest a fire hazard. Hundreds of hectares of pines and oaks went up in smoke near Ramatuelle despite the efforts of firefighters and fire retardant air drops.
