    In July 2017 the natural reserve of Cap Lardier suffered from major wildfires. Local official accuses the authorities of failing to regularly remove dry undergrowth, making the forest a fire hazard. Hundreds of hectares of pines and oaks went up in smoke near Ramatuelle despite the efforts of firefighters and fire retardant air drops. The desolate landscape of blackened headlands fringed by charred umbrella pines replaces now the green forest. It's a disaster area...
