Two or three times a year I go down to the National Mall to putz around a bit. My main interest was to check out the various gardens along the Mall; there are several nice ones. I was photographing bees and butterflies working the Mexican Sunflowers when I saw this surprising visitor, a Ruby-throated Hummingbird (the only kind we have here in the DC area). Even more surprising, it perched for at least a minute.
