This photograph betrays the scene. No, it wasn't a rebel against the crowd, or one against many, or a lone ranger trope. My ears saw this scene first: the arid calm of the Hunder Valley, Ladakh, was rent by the relentless braying of this calf, which was, I suspect, lost and searching a familiar scent--her mother in that caravan perhaps. All was well ultimately and such are photographs sometimes.
