Merops Orientalis (green bee-eater) are aerial insectivores with a fascinating social life. These birds exhibit what's know as 'co-operative breeding ' where a non-breeding adult assists a breeding pair to raise its young. This altruism is a paradox and and is an exemplar to W. D. Hamilton's theory of Inclusive Fitness. I often find these birds on the outskirt of the city, usually one or two and on good days even three.
