    Reported by:

Vangel Zhekov, 98, smoking a cigarette in the early morning outside the home he shares with his wife in the small village of Golyam Dervent, Bulgaria. Beginning in 2013, their small village on the Turkish border became heavily trafficked by migrants making the arduous crossing from Turkey in order to seek asylum in the European Union. The elderly Zhekovs are said to have helped many migrants, offering them much needed food and water.
