Nestled in a National Wildlife Refuge, the Dogtown bridge stands silent and forgotten. It is surrounded by a thick canopy of oaks and pines. The only sounds are the trees rustling in the breeze and the wildlife sounds echoing through the woods. An occasional car passes on the nearby road. The bridge is a peaceful place to be quiet and listen to nature’s symphony. When my work brings me near, I slip away for a few minutes of solitude. Built in 1919, the bridge has many stories to tell.
