A Southern Ethiopian Man with Cataracts
Cataract is the leading cause of blindness. In the developing world, cataract has profound effects amplified by social stigma, inadequate support, and poor infrastructure. Fortunately, blindness from cataract can be easily treated: An out-patient surgery (5-10 minutes) with the extraction of cataract and replacement with an Intraocular Lens. Patients in Southern Ethiopia (Arba Minch) get their vision back from this humanitarian project led by the Himalayan Cataract Project.
