The weather forecast called for a snowstorm in the sierras on the last day of summer, so I took a drive up the mountain to go for a wintry walk. When I was here two weeks ago, it was a hot, sunny day, and the lake was teeming with swimmers and boaters. And they'll be back once the warm fall weather returns. But on this unseasonably cold day, the swan had the water to itself.
