This mural, painted by artist Erik Nicolaisen, is in downtown Coos Bay. It honors home town runner, Steve Prefontaine, who held every American record between two miles and 10,000 meters when he died in a car accident in 1975. Steve, known as "Pre", is still a running hero to many people and he was known for pressing through pain to win competitions and giving his all.
