"Pony Bob" Haslam raced out of Buckland's Station near Fort Churchill on horseback with a copy of President Lincoln's inaugural Address in his saddlebag. His goal was to deliver the text to Lake Tahoe, some 120 miles distant over a long stretch of rugged and often hostile territory. Despite suffering from a wound inflicted by Indians, he made the journey in less than nine hours. Historic Army Fort and Pony Express Station, Nevada. Image shot with a Nikon F4s transparency color film.
