Parvati created the camel and to tend it Siva created the Raika. For centuries, the daily routine of the colourfully-turbaned Raika men revolved around the camel's needs. They know every animal by name, footprint, and temperament. They treat their wounds and ailments with plant remedies. The Raikas don’t ride their camels. Instead, they walk great distances, leading their herds to the best foraging areas. When their daughters get married, they gift them female camels.
