Reddish Egret are known for their energetic and animated fishing techniques. They run, spin, dart and at one moment dazzle with their ballet-like movement and the next moment become awkward and comical. They're such amazing photo subjects that I find it impossible to pass by without clicking away. This juvenile Reddish Egret was using a jump and fly technique that I had never seen before, jumping up and hovering a bit before coming down to make an attempt at grabbing a fish.
